Adventure Cycling Routes map of routes in US & Canada The Great American Loop Tour (name I chose for my journey): A self-supported bicycle tour consisting of the ACA routes; Atlantic Coast, Northern Tier, Pacific Coast, and the Southern Tier. I have no designated time frame for my journey (although, I anticipate it to take at least a year to a year and a half), and will journal my ride as I progress. I plan on starting my journey on the Atlantic Tier in Key West,FL. I will proceed up the Atlantic coast to Bar Harbor,ME, then head west until I reach Missoula,MT. From there, I want to take a dip south to visit & do some camping on the Great Parks Route, then return to Missoula, and continue west. When I Reach Ancortes,WA, I will turn south on the Pacific Route to continue my journey until I reach San Diego. I will start my journey back towards Florida on the Southern Tier, with a detour on the Grand Canyon Connector in Tempe,AZ, to visit one of America's great geological wonders. Then loop back to the southern tier, and finish my journey back to Florida, where I will finish my journey in St Augustine, Florida. The Great American Loop is a journey of 14,982.5 miles, and could well exceed 16,000 miles, dependent on my side excursions while on my tour. Such a route is a major undertaking of time, money, and resources. Finances would be based on whether I camp along the route, or stay in hostels or hotels. If anyone has advice, tips, or other information that might be helpful, please leave your comments. Thank You, and Happy Trails! |
